Meet the Team

Founded in 2021, Green Lens Productions is owned and operated by three friends, creatives, and cinephiles (don’t ask us about our opinions on any movies or TV if you value your spare time) who live for the unique thrill of making amazing films. We first met in Ryerson (now Toronto Metropolitan) University’s Media Production program in 2016, where we became close friends over the course of the making of our first feature film together.
With graduation looming, we would often discuss our career plans with each other, proclaiming that we never wanted to be full-time videographers or photographers.
Early on, we actively fought against that prospect– preferring to take work in the TV and film industry above anything else. In the years leading up to Green Lens’ founding, freelance media production
strictly remained as our side-hustle. We would take small jobs with our personal/hobby cameras whenever we were offered and our schedules allowed, but rarely sought out that kind of work on an active level.

However, thanks to both the strong network of professional contacts we had built up at school, and the positive client referrals we received; jobs in that market always seemed to continue landing in our laps. So we decided to take a leap of faith and start operating as a team officially, joining forces to create this company. We brought our filmmaking skills to the place they were the most transferable, and with our combined experience, brought a new angle to the videography scene.
We don’t operate like videographers, but rather like a film crew- treating every project environment, no matter how small, like its very own set. This means doing things like: creating a crew hierarchy with assigned production roles, optimizing our workflow for faster setup times, consistently making clear communication with our clients, and always pushing for the best possible on-screen product (no matter how stressful things might get in a time-crunch). We’re a tight-knit team who can tell what the others are thinking with just a look, which makes all the difference when time is of the essence and money is on the line.

Our company’s focus: Capturing images with a visually stunning, cinematic flair.
Our personal goal: Create lasting memories from all the moments that would be missed (or even worse, forgotten) without a videographer or photographer present.
Our philosophy: None of us live forever, but what we record just might.
Green means go, so let’s get to work.

Hunter Carson, Pau Martin & Josh Hinrichs
Co-Founders of Green Lens Productions

Hunter Carson
Co-Founder, Director
Hunter is our team’s Director in every sense of the word. He creates the shooting plans that we use on set for best coverage and coordinates the crew, and he has a sharp eye for cinematic composition to tie it all together.
A strong proponent of “keeping it simple”, Hunter is the one who puts in countless hours behind the scenes to make sure everything we work with, just works.
Every preproduction document, complex camera rig, and even our file storage system was all meticulously assembled and tested by Hunter ahead of time. Thanks to his preparations, Green Lens goes into each new job with total peace of mind, knowing we can focus on making the best art possible without worrying about technical limitations.
On the topic of making art, Hunter has a passion for directing, the likes of which you’ll rarely see outside of Hollywood. He began studying the great masters of 20th-
century filmmaking all the way back in high school and has committed enough artistic techniques to memory to write a book on the subject. To put his money where his mouth was, he also spent those pre-university years constantly writing and directing his own short films. With the eventual help of Pau and Josh (as well as a continued intake of knowledge) he soon refined his craft into the slick, confident style it is today.
At one point, Hunter was the head instructor of the Appleby College filmmaking summer camp, because, in his own words:“You don’t truly understand a topic until you can explain it to a 10-year-old”.
He’s the type of creator that could listen to a new song and tell you exactly what aesthetics would best suit its eventual music video or skim a developing screenplay and already have an idea of how and where he’d film it.So whether it’s the unique stories behind your wedding or a new product you want to advertise to the world, Hunter will work with you to help bring your vision to life in ways you couldn’t possibly imagine.
Hunter parle couramment le Français, et sera heureux d'être votre point de contact si vous préférez utiliser cette langue lors de vos échanges avec nous.
Pau Martin
Co-Founder, Director of Photography
There are two reasons why Pau is our team’s Director of Photography.
The first is, that he can shape light and shadow in ways the rest of us can't even fathom. His skill as a cinematographer is the key component in creating the ‘cinematic’ aesthetic that our company prides itself on.
The second reason is that, out of the three of us, Pau has put in the most amount of hours on traditional film and TV sets.

Compared to career videographers, this experience with large-scale, international productions is what sets Pau apart and is what gives our team an edge. That part in our introduction about how we approach every job like a film crew, working on a set?
That was Pau.

Opting to employ larger, more complex camera systems,

instead of the usual low-key kits you’ll find most other videography teams using?
That was Pau.
Even the name “Green Lens” comes from a trinket that a young, curious (and admittedly nosey) Pau found while rummaging around in his great-grandfather’s home in Barcelona. The green lens in question was an old piece of watch-making equipment used to inspect impurities in metals. Pau managed to sneak the item into a few of our earlier Films. See if you spot all of its cameos.
If you want to see a completely new perspective on a familiar genre, how light and shadow can completely change a narrative, or how your product would look under the most appealing conditions, Pau is the man for the job.
Pau habla Español con fluidez, y estaría honrado de servirle en Español si lo prefiere y ser su punto de contacto con la empresa.

Joshua Hinrichs
Co-Founder, Producer, Editor, Writer
Like Spider-Man, Green Lens needed its very own ‘guy in the chair’.
Enter Josh.
From managing client bookings to directly overseeing the post-production process on all our projects, Josh is the one who makes sure the wheels don’t fly off when our business is at its busiest.
When on the job, his ‘guy in the chair’ status equates to him being a sort of all-seeing eye at Green Lens. For example: while Hunter and Pau might be outside capturing the wedding footage that will end up in the client’s Same-Day edit later that night, Josh is sitting behind his laptop, carefully watching the live feed from both of their cameras. He will direct them over wireless headsets like a live sports broadcast because Josh can see how an edit will come together before he even receives the footage.
Already a talented screenwriter and editor before the team met,
Josh perfected his craft across several years of Green Lens’ participation in the Toronto 48 Hour Film Project (a competition centred around creating a complete short film in less than two days). You can see his work on our Films.
It was during these projects that Josh learned the uncommon skill of how to assemble a video fast without sacrificing quality. Thanks to this, Josh became the guy who can still deliver a final product on schedule to a host of very happy clients meeting any deadline head on.
Even when he gets too busy to edit everything himself, Josh still takes the hands-on, ‘all-seeing-eye’ approach to supervising his carefully-curated roster of freelance editors. No final product that Green Lens sends out to a client ever reaches them without Josh providing his creative and/or technical input in some form along the way.
Josh’s roster of editors consists of members who are fluent in several languages, including French, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Mandarin, and Arabic. If you require video editing services involving any of these languages, Josh will be happy to connect you with a colleague who can assist.
